Accepting Jesus

Are you ready to become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian is about entering into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches that it's not about earning your way to heaven through good deeds or rituals, but about receiving His grace through faith.

Here are the core biblical steps and concepts  involved in becoming a Christian:

  1. Understand God's Love and Plan: The Bible tells us that God loves you deeply and has a purpose for your life. He created you to be in relationship with Him.
John 3:16 (NKJV): "For God so loved the world that He gave  His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but  have everlasting life."
  2. Recognize That We Are Separated from God by Sin: The Bible also teaches that all people have sinned and fallen short of God's perfect standard. Sin is anything we do, say, or think that separates us from God.
Romans 3:23 (NKJV): "for all have sinned and fall short of  the glory of God,"
Romans 6:23 (NKJV): "For the wages of sin is death, but the  gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (The "death" here refers to spiritual separation from  God).
  3. Acknowledge That Jesus Christ is God's Solution: Because God loves us, He didn't leave us in our state of separation. He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect life, die on the cross to pay the price for our sins, and rise again, to conquer death. He is the bridge back to God and our salvation.
Romans 5:8 (NKJV): "But God demonstrates His own love toward  us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for  us."
  4. Respond with Repentance and Faith:
This is where your part comes in. Becoming a Christian involves two key responses:

Repentance: This means turning away from your sin and turning toward God. It's a change of mind and heart that leads to a change in direction in your life. It involves acknowledging your sin before God.
Acts 3:19 (NKJV): "Repent therefore and be converted, that  your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the  presence of the Lord,"

Faith: This means believing in Jesus Christ–who He is (God's Son) and what He did (died for your sins and rose again)–and placing  your trust in Him alone for salvation. It's not just intellectual agreement, but also a personal reliance on Him.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV): "For by grace you have been saved  through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV): "that if you confess with your mouth  the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the  dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,  and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

How Do You Do This?
Becoming a Christian is a decision of the heart to turn to God and receive Jesus Christ. It's not a complicated ritual, but a sincere turning to God through prayer.

There's no magic formula, the first step is to simply say a prayer like this:

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that my sin has separated me from You. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that He rose again. I repent of my sins and turn away from them. I place my faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone as my Savior and Lord. Please forgive me and come into my life. Thank You for Your grace and the gift of eternal life. Amen.
